My very large oak tree is pushing up my front sidewalk, causing it to buckle and become a hazard. I need to fix the sidewalk, but don't want to endanger the beautiful tree. What do you suggest to minimize damage to the tree?
I am not sure how much control you have over where the sidewalk needs to be, but the best option would be to direct it around the root.
If you do end up having to remove part of the root, try to remove as little as possible.
Something to consider: The tree may appear to be fine for years and then show some signs of decline due to the lost root.
